Vampire crochet pattern

You remember this crocheted guy?

vampire crochet patternI've crocheted this one in back loops only, but you may crochet it in both loops or in whatever way you like

Well I've finally typed a pattern for him. And this will be officially my first crochet pattern! yeeeeaaaah! Here we go:

Abbreviations:

ch = chain
st = stitch
nxt = next
sc = single crochet
* = repeat from the beginning of the row
dec = sc decrease (I use invisible decrease so that there're no holes in my toys)
slst = slip stitch
hdc = half-double crochet

Body:

row 1: ch2
row 2: 6sc in 2d ch from hook (make a ring)
row 3: 2sc into each st (= 12st)
row 4: 2sc in 1 st, sc in nxt st* (= 18st)
row 5: 2sc in 1 st, sc in nxt 2 st* (= 24st)
row 6: 2sc in 1 st, sc in nxt 3 st* (= 30st)
row 7: 2sc in 1 st, sc in nxt 4 st* (= 36st)
row 8: 2sc in 1 st, sc in nxt 5 st* (= 42st)
row 9: 2sc in 1 st, sc in nxt 6 st* (= 48st)
row 10: 2sc in 1 st, sc in nxt 7 st* (= 54st)
rows 11-14: sc around
row 15: dec, sc in nxt 7 st* (= 48st)
row 16: dec, sc in nxt 6 st* (= 42st)
rows 17-19: sc around (= 42st)
row 20: dec, sc in nxt 5 st* (= 36st)
row 21: dec, sc in nxt 4 st* (= 30st)
row 22: dec, sc in nxt 3 st* (= 24st)
row 23-24: sc around
row 25: 2sc in 1 st, sc in nxt 3 st* (= 30st)
row 26: 2sc in 1 st, sc in nxt 4 st* (= 36st)
row 27: 2sc in 1 st, sc in nxt 5 st* (= 42st)
rows 28-29: sc around
row 30: dec, sc in nxt 5 st* (= 36st)
row 31: dec, sc in nxt 4 st* (= 30st)
row 32: dec, sc in nxt 3 st* (= 24st)
row 33: dec, sc in nxt 2 st* (= 18st)
here you may start stuffing
row 34: dec, sc in nxt 1 st* (= 12st)
stuff the rest of the toy
row 35: dec* (= 6st)
fasten off

Legs:

ch 10, 9sc from 2d loop from hook; don't turn
slst into 2d ch from hook, ch3, slst into 2d ch from hook, ch3, slst into 2d ch from hook, ch3, slst and fasten off

Wings:

I couldn't yet figure out how to make the wings so I used the dragon wings from the other person's pattern. I'm posting it here but you may find the original author of these wings here.

row 1: ch 16.
row 2: Miss 1st ch. 3 slst, 5 sc, 7 hdc, ch 2, turn.
row 3: 7 hdc, 5 sc, 3 slst, ch1, turn.
row 4: 3 slst, 5 sc, 7 hdc, ch 3, turn.
row 5: Miss 1st ch, 2 slst (to make claws), 7 hdc, 5 sc, 3 slst, ch1, turn.
row 6: 3 slst, 5 sc, 7 hdc, ch 2, turn.
row 7: 7 hdc, 5 sc, 3 slst, ch1, turn.
row 8: 3 slst, 5 sc, 7 hdc, ch 3, turn.
rows 9 – 12: Repeat rows 5 – 8.
row 13: Miss 1st ch, 2 slst, 15 sc.

Then sc along the base of the wing and along the other side, ch3, turn, miss 1st ch, 2 slst to make last claw. FO leaving long tail. Use this to secure the last claw to the rest of the wing, then take thread through wing to its base, ready to sew onto body.

That's it. Attach the wings and the legs to the body, embroider the face, make the eyes and your vampire creature is ready for the hunting!

  1. What an adorable guy. I think he may find his way into some of the Halloween packages I will be sending out next fall.
