Today I'm happy to present you my favorite pattern - the Sheep! It was my 1st crocheted work and having made my 6th sheep I decided to finally write down the pattern. Here it goes:
Abbreviations:
ch = chain
st = stitch
nxt = next
sc = single crochet
* = repeat from the beginning of the row
dec = sc decrease (I use invisible decrease so that there're no holes in my toys)
Abbreviations:ch = chain

Body
rnd 1: Start with making either an adjustable magic ring or amigurumi double ring of 6 stitches or just chain 2st and make 6 sc in second loop from hook.
rnd 2: 2sc in each st (=12st)
rnd 3: 2sc in 1st, sc in nxt st* (=18st)
rnd 4: 2sc in 1st, sc in nxt 2 st* (=24st)
rnd 5: 2sc in 1st, sc in nxt 3 st* (=30st)
rnd 6: 2sc in 1st, sc in nxt 4 st* (=36st)
rnd 7: 2sc in 1st, sc in nxt 5 st* (=42st)
rnd 8 - 14: sc around
rnd 15: dec, sc in nxt 5 st* (=36st)
rnd 16: dec, sc in nxt 4 st* (=30st)
rnd 17: dec, sc in nxt 3 st* (=24st)
rnd 19: dec, sc in nxt 2 st* (=18st)
rnd 20: dec, sc in nxt st* (=12st)
stuff
rnd 21: dec each st (=6st)
finish off
rnd 1: Start with making either an adjustable magic ring or amigurumi double ring of 6 stitches or just chain 2st and make 6 sc in second loop from hook.
rnd 2: 2sc in each st (=12st)
rnd 3-9: sc around (* Here you may want to attach the ears)
stuff
rnd 10: dec, sc* (=9st)
rnd 11: dec, sc* (=6st)
finish off and sew the head to the body
Ears
Ch 6, sc in back loop of the second st from hook, sc 4 more st in back loops of the starting row. ch 1, don't turn but continue to sc now in front loops of the starting chain. In the end you should have your starting chain in center between two rows surrounding it.
Make two, sew them to the head.
Tail
ch 7, sc in 2d st from hook in back loop, sc another 5 st in back loops only.
Attach the tail to the back side of the body.
Legs
Ch 6, sc in 2d ch from hook, sc in nxt 4 st, ch 1, turn
sc in 5 st of the previous row, ch 1, turn
sc in 5 st of the previous row
Now take 4 q-tips (cotton swabs), cut off the cotton from one of the sides from each swab (I suggest cutting diagonally so that they have sharp edges so that you can easily stick them into the body), wrap them into crocheted leg parts and sew... I guess you can see it on the picture what I exactly mean. If not - you're welcome to ask.
I usually use a little bit of glue to secure the legs to the q-tips and then also glue the tips that you want to stick into the body.
The sheep is almost ready! Make the eyes (What I do is simply cut equal looking round pieces of thin white cardboard and also two smaller ones of velour paper, glue them to each other and then glue them to the sheep's head. That's all!
Any feedback is always welcome! I'd love to see your works made with this pattern too!

They're so cute - thanks for sharing your pattern. :)
ReplyDeletei did the body in back loops only and when done and stuffed, i went back and sc and ch3,in each loop. this gives a wooly look. maybe a lot of work, but worth it.

ReplyDeleteThis is a lovely pattern you have created, and I can't wait to crochet my very first one! Maybe I'll create a flock of 'sheep' :)
